EMPRESAS MONTERREY/TURISMO.- Al otro lado de las brillantes aguas de la Bahía Laguna Madre y el Golfo de México, South Padre Island acogerá una vez más el mayor y más antiguo torneo de pesca en agua salada de Texas, el Torneo Internacional de Pesca de Texas (TIFT), del 30 de julio al 3 de agosto de 2025. Este es el 85º año del torneo, un verdadero testimonio de la excelente pesca que se puede encontrar en la zona.
“Durante muchas décadas, el Torneo Internacional de Pesca de Texas, que ofrece lo mejor de la pesca en la bahía y en alta mar, ha sido una parte importante de la construcción de la reputación de South Padre Island como uno de los principales destinos de pesca del país”, dijo Blake Henry, Director Ejecutivo de Visit South Padre Island.

Fundado en 1933 por Doc J.A. Hockaday con el objetivo de mostrar la excepcional pesca que se puede encontrar en la región del Valle del Río Grande, el TIFT se ha convertido en un acontecimiento de primer orden para los pescadores que atrae a 1.500 participantes y 500 embarcaciones que compiten durante dos emocionantes días.
El TIFT se centra en fomentar un torneo de pesca de calidad, orientado a la familia, con una mezcla perfecta de competición y compromiso con la comunidad, en el que pescadores experimentados y juniors pescan codo con codo.
Los pescadores competirán en tres divisiones: Bahía, alta mar y sábalo.
– Los pescadores de la bahía pescan trucha moteada, gallineta nórdica y platija.
– Los competidores de alta mar pescan aguja azul, aguja blanca, pez vela y atún.
– La división de sábalo es exclusivamente de captura y suelta.
El jueves 31 de julio se celebrará una reunión de capitanes en el Centro de Convenciones SPI. El viernes y el sábado, 1 y 2 de agosto, serán los días de competición, y la ceremonia de entrega de premios y el almuerzo del domingo 3, de nuevo en el Centro de Convenciones, cerrarán el fin de semana del torneo. South Padre Island Prepares for 85th Annual Texas International Fishing Tournament
Across the sparkling waters of the Laguna Madre Bay and Gulf of Mexico, South Padre Island will once again play host to Texas’ oldest and largest saltwater fishing tournament—the Texas International Fishing Tournament (TIFT)—from July 30 to August 3, 2025. This marks the tournament’s 85th year, a true testament to the outstanding fishing to be found in the area.
“Over many decades, the Texas International Fishing Tournament, which offers the best of both bay and offshore fishing, has been an important part of building South Padre Island’s reputation as one of the country’s premier fishing destinations,” said Blake Henry, Executive Director of Visit South Padre Island. “Along with all the amenities our beautiful island offers, there is a reason this tournament continues to attract thousands of visitors year after year.”
Founded in 1933 by Doc J.A. Hockaday with the goal of showcasing the exceptional fishing to be found in the Rio Grande Valley region, TIFT has become a premier angler’s event that draws 1,500 participants and 500 boats competing over two thrilling days. TIFT is focused on fostering a quality, family-oriented fishing tournament with a perfect blend of competition and community engagement, where seasoned anglers and juniors fish side by side.
Anglers will compete in three divisions: Bay, Offshore, and Tarpon.
– Bay anglers target speckled trout, redfish, and flounder
– Offshore competitors go after blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, and tuna
– The Tarpon division is exclusively catch-and-release.
A captain’s meeting takes place on Thursday, July 31st at the SPI Convention Center. Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd are competition days, and then an awards ceremony and lunch on Sunday, the 3rd, back at the Convention Center, cap the tournament weekend.
